Derrick Plummer

Derrick has nearly 20 years of experience as a strategic communicator specializing in public affairs, crisis and political communications, stakeholder engagement, multicultural, and media relations.

Derrick has led multiple high-profile communications efforts for multinational corporations. He is responsible for managing the development and execution of multifaceted insights-driven, brand building communications programs to effectively help clients achieve their business goals and objectives.

Before joining Intuit, Derrick was a senior executive at SKDK and other agencies including Purple Strategies and Edelman where his client work included providing strategic counsel and communications support for companies including Delta, Nissan, Krispy Kreme, Under Armour, Arby’s, Barilla, Universal Health Services, Boston Consulting Group, and MailChimp.

Previously, Derrick served as assistant communications director for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union International (UFCW), providing strategic counsel on issues related to labor disputes in the retail sector. He has served as press secretary for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development during the first term of the Obama Administration, where he oversaw the agency’s press and media outreach, including the historic $25 billion mortgage servicing settlement agreement.

His political work includes serving on the Kerry/Edwards 2004 presidential campaign, as a regional press secretary and director of African American media affairs for the Democratic National Committee, and as communications director for Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-WI).

Derrick holds a B.A. in Political Science from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA and a Master of Business Administration from Howard University. In 2020, Derrick was named to PRWeek’s 40 Under 40 list.
